The Upbeat Swing Orchestra is a Los Angeles based swing Big Band specializing in dance music from the Big Band Era. We are a professional 17-piece Big Band with vocalists performing hits from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, and others.
Our extensive library is based on hundreds of scores printed in the era and on transcriptions from original recordings. We perform classic hits as well as charts not often heard but deserving of broader public exposure, played in a modern Jazz style. Our book also includes Latin and modern Jazz music.
Our music is available online for your listening pleasure from your favorite streaming services.
We believe in using our music to contribute to the community and perform charity work for accredited charities (with Tax ID) based on our availability.
The Upbeat Swing Orchestra offers an evening of dancing to authentic Big Band swing music. We perform some of the most accurate arrangements of the hits of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, etc. We use vocal arrangements made famous by Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Bob Eberley, Nat King Cole, among others. Although we feature swing music, our book also includes Latin charts as well as a variety of more modern jazz charts. Our music is available online from your favorite streaming services.
The Upbeat Swing Orchestra is available for your event as the full 17-piece Big Band plus vocalists. A Big Band is composed of 5 saxophones (two altos, two tenors, and one baritone, any of which can double on clarinet), 4 trumpets, 4 trombones (three tenor and one bass), and a rhythm section composed of piano, rhythm guitar, bass guitar or upright bass, and drums. The Upbeat Swing Orchestra has both male and female vocalists. Our professional musicians are comfortable performing as a full Big Band down to smaller groups such as trios and quartets. We are based in Southern California.
We are available for weddings, corporate events, institutional celebrations, and more. Rates vary based on the size of the band desired, the length of the performance, and the day of week. Please provide us your event information so we can suggest the appropriate group for your event and enable us to provide an accurate quote as quickly as possible.
It is best to contact us early, as our musicians are in demand for their services, and we will need advance notice to book your special event.
